Pump shaft mechanical seals

Description

AT Engineering offers mechanical seals for pump shafts.

A mechanical seal is the assembly that keeps a pump leak-tight where the shaft passes through the pump cover. Tightness is achieved by pressing together the end faces of high-precision parts — one rotating and one stationary.

Main types of mechanical seals

  • Metal bellows mechanical seal
  • Conical spring mechanical seal
  • Rubber bellows mechanical seal
  • Pump mechanical seals in a metal housing
  • Universal cartridge seal

They are made from materials such as silicon carbide, aluminium oxide, tungsten carbide and graphite impregnated with metals or synthetic resins. Rubber, Viton and nitrile can be used as secondary seals.

A mechanical seal is a fast-wearing pump component, so to avoid downtime and losses we recommend keeping a stock of these parts. The main causes of seal failure are wear, incorrect application, dry running and seal sticking.

Mechanical seals are used in the chemical, petrochemical and food industries, as well as in power generation, district heating, utilities, cosmetics and veterinary applications.

We recommend mechanical seals from EBARA, WILO, LOWARA and FRISTAM.

AT Engineering’s advantage is not only supply but also replacement, repair and service.
